Urumqi Launches Major Lighting Overhaul

On the morning of May 13th, on Jinshajiang Road in Urumqi's Shayibake District, an aerial work platform slowly ascended. Maintenance personnel wearing reflective vests, armed with tools, inspected the streetlight sources and cables one by one. Meanwhile, along Guanyuan Road in Shuimogou District, two workers were replacing a streetlight that had become "blind" due to aging wiring-a vivid example of Urumqi's intensive and meticulous maintenance of its public lighting facilities.

On May 13th, on Jinshajiang Road in Pingdingshan Subdistrict, Shayibake District, workers climbed onto aerial work platforms to repair damaged streetlights.

Li Yong, Deputy Director of the Public Lighting Maintenance Management Office of the Shayibake District Urban Management Bureau (Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau), explained that this maintenance effort utilizes a "patrol + re-inspection" model, focusing on identifying safety hazards such as aging lamps and exposed wiring.

On May 13th, workers on Jinshajiang Road in Pingdingshan Subdistrict, Shayibake District, boarded a aerial platform to repair damaged streetlights.

"We've replaced the light poles along the route with new LED lights. They're not only brighter, but also more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly," said Li Gang, Deputy Director of the Public Lighting Maintenance and Management Office of the Shuimogou District Urban Management Bureau (Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau), at the site on Nanhu South Road. "Don't underestimate these streetlights; they directly impact the safety of citizens traveling at night."

On May 13th, workers on Nanhu South Road in Shuimogou District boarded an aerial platform to replace damaged streetlights.

Maintenance worker Gao Ping, using a lifting platform, ascended to the heights and expertly removed the old lights and installed the new ones. The entire process took about an hour, and the replacement was completed efficiently. "Daytime operations require every minute of every day to ensure repair quality while minimizing traffic disruptions," Gao Ping said, wiping sweat from his forehead.

It is reported that Shuimogou District plans to conduct a comprehensive overhaul, maintenance, and replacement of over 30,000 streetlights, with completion expected by the end of August. On May 13th, workers operated aerial ladders on Jinshajiang Road in Pingdingshan Subdistrict, Shayibake District.

Kong Na, head of the Lighting Section of the Municipal Urban Management Bureau (Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau), explained that since Urumqi launched its spring environmental sanitation campaign, various urban expressways and districts and counties have continuously strengthened routine inspections and management of public lighting facilities, promptly repairing and replacing damaged equipment. Currently, the city's streetlight usage rate remains above 98%.
