With the further development of the Beautiful City initiative in Luquan Yi and Miao Autonomous County, Kunming, 111 sets of newly installed rhododendron-themed streetlights were fully lit on January 15 along roads including Xiuping Road and Zhangjiuhe West Road in the urban area. The light and shadow with unique ethnic characteristics not only illuminate residents’ travel routes but also serve as a new calling card showcasing Luquan’s cultural charm and enhancing urban quality, winning wide praise from all sectors of society.

This lighting project takes the rhododendron flower-a cultural symbol of the Yi people in Luquan-as the core design element, abstracting its form into the lamp poles and lamp heads. As night falls, warm white light streams from the rhododendron-shaped lamp heads, complementing neon signs of roadside shops and vehicle lights to form a nighttime landscape corridor that combines ethnic style and modern aesthetics. The use of these characteristic streetlights has not only improved the urban nighttime aesthetic value but also strengthened Luquan’s cultural identity, becoming a new window to showcase the “Charming Luquan” image.
Beyond their attractive appearance, the new streetlights have achieved comprehensive functional upgrades. Adopting high-efficiency LED light sources, their brightness, uniformity and coverage far exceed the original facilities, effectively eliminating dark zones in some urban sections. The bright lighting has improved nighttime road traffic conditions, enhanced safety for pedestrians and vehicles, and directly increased residents’ sense of gain and happiness.
It is reported that the launch of these characteristic streetlights has not only brightened the urban night sky but also stimulated Luquan’s night economy. The bright and attractive nighttime environment has significantly boosted the enthusiasm of roadside shops, with many extending business hours. Residents’ outdoor activity time has also increased, creating a stronger nighttime consumption atmosphere downtown. The distinctive lighting landscape has attracted many residents and tourists to stop and take photos, further promoting local leisure consumption and helping spread Luquan’s cultural and tourism image.
