Recently, the National Basketball League (NBA) announced that the 2024 All-Star Game will be held on an advanced LED court installed at Lucas Oil Stadium. It is reported that in addition to the All-Star Game, all individual events and celebrity games during the All-Star Weekend will be played on the LED glass floor.
The LED court for this All-Star event was developed by ASB GlassFloor. In July last year, the LED court was used for the first time in the U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.
Information shows that ASB GlassFloor is a German company that produces LED glass floor screens with high levels of shock absorption and elasticity, which can reduce the load on athletes' joints and provide the rebound effect required for sports such as basketball. Previously, ASB GlassFloor's LED glass floors have been used in major sports venues in Germany, and have been used in the 3×3 basketball game of the Ruhr District in Bochum in 2021.
The LED court used in this NBA All-Star event is made of LED panels with two layers of laminated safety glass. Each layer is 5 mm thick. The surface of the panel is etched with ceramic dots, which can provide the same grip as the maple wood court. and friction. The LED stadium can change into different styles according to different events, and the content displayed includes real-time game data, lens replays, player tracking animations, etc.
According to the NBA, the league planned to introduce LED stadiums as early as eight years ago, but the relevant technology was not yet mature at that time. The NBA stated that LED stadiums can present richer entertainment and sports data content information without distracting athletes' attention.
