A few days ago, Plenty, a vertical farm company based in South San Francisco, unveiled its latest vertical farm, Tigris.
According to the news, Tigris is the largest and most efficient and automated vertical farm in the area so far. It is specially used to grow green leafy vegetables, adopts soilless hydroponics, and uses LED lighting throughout the year. According to Plenty CEO, the company experimented with nearly 700 plant varieties last year.
With Tigris and future farms, Plenty said, they will provide an environment to grow delicious crops, but they can also provide crops that have never been grown for grocery stores due to climate change or seasonality or crop transportation issues.
Currently, Tigris has started operations, after which facility-level food safety certification will be conducted according to internationally recognized third-party standards to ensure that the vertical farm meets and exceeds the highest cleanliness and safety of Plenty's agricultural products.
According to reports, Plenty's products can now be purchased online through Good Eggs (a US organic fresh delivery service provider), and customers can also purchase them in person at community supermarkets. Later this year, Plenty will make Tigris' leafy greens widely available.
