Signify looks set to release a stunning new line of bulbs for its Philips Hue brand -- as the company continues to innovate its line of LED-based smart lighting. The new Lightguide series features oversized dimmable smart bulbs in three shapes designed for open lighting installations. These looks can add some stylish mood lighting to any setup.
Similar to Hue's filament bulbs, the Lightguide bulbs are dimmable white bulbs designed for mood lighting, and they have the same subtle black base and clear glass bulbs. But the Lightguide series is capable of full color light as well as adjustable white light and dimming. This new decorative bulb comes in three shapes: triangular, oval and spherical.
These bulbs are also quite large, just under 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide. These bulbs are clearly not meant to be hidden in shades but displayed in open installations as beautiful bulbs.
According to the product description, each bulb has a visible inner tube and a reflective glossy surface to make them emit a special light. They can output up to 500 lumens of light and a thermodynamic temperature of 2700 Kelvin, which is similar to the filament series and makes these ambient bulbs unsuitable for task lighting.
Like all Hue bulbs, they support Bluetooth and Zigbee, so they can be used with the Hue Bridge and used directly with the user's phone or tablet or paired with an Amazon Echo smart speaker. Users should be able to control them with the Hue app, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings and all other smart home integrations from Philips Hue. Signify is also promising support for Matter, the new smart home standard, via the Hue Bridge.
