Signify launches solar LED aquaculture lights

After fully achieving the carbon-neutral goal in September 2020, Signify has launched a new round of sustainable development plans, aiming to double its environmental and social contributions by 2025. Guided by the “United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”, Signify promises to reduce carbon emissions in the entire company’s value chain on the basis of carbon-neutral operations, and double-speed to catch up with the goals of the Paris Agreement; through the food supply, security, and protection, health and well-being, etc., double the income related to "shiny life" to 32%, improve social well-being, and call on the world to accelerate the adoption of "economically applicable clean energy."

Signify launches solar LED aquaculture lights

In the field of aquaculture lighting, Signify still complies with this point. Signify launched a new Philips solar aquaculture lamp in April this year. It uses clean solar panels and LED light sets. One lamp is placed equidistantly every 100 to 150 square meters in the pond and connected to the centerline by a rope. Or they can be connected to each other to ensure the best operation effect, and the installation process is simple.

The aquaculture lamp provides targeted lighting for a variety of fishes including tilapia, and can help aquaculture enterprises increase production and efficiency. In a commercial-scale experiment, a study by South China Agricultural University showed that using 60 solar aquaculture lights in a 7,000-square-meter pond can increase the growth rate of fish by 10% and increase the feed conversion rate. This reduces the feed required for farming per kilogram of fish by 10%.

Earlier, a study jointly conducted by South China Agricultural University and Shanghai Ocean University had similar results. Based on this, South China Agricultural University began to experiment under real conditions. This new experiment was carried out at a tilapia farm in Taishan City, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, southern China. It confirmed that the new solar aquaculture lamp can increase the growth rate of fish by 10%. At the same time, the product also has a positive impact on water quality. This commercial-scale trial lasted 117 days, and the tilapia production increased by 1,770 kg compared to the control pond.

In addition, Signify also develops through close cooperation with top universities and research institutes. Philips aquaculture lighting products use the best materials suitable for the marine environment to ensure durability under harsh conditions. A sustainable development plan that truly achieves energy-saving, emission-reduction, eco-environmental protection, and durability.
