Hong Kong will install hundreds of smart street lights with sensors this year

Today, in the process of building a smart city, there are a large number of sensors and systems landing every day. We know that smart city construction requires a large number of sensor-aware devices to collect massive amounts of information from cities. In this way, the street lights on the city street become the most convenient information collection entrance for smart cities. In recent years, domestic and foreign cities have begun to install IoT sensor devices such as smart cameras, smart information large screens, and sensors on street lighting equipment.

Hong Kong will install 400 smart street lights

According to media reports, at the end of June 2019, Hong Kong will install 50 multi-functional smart street lamps along the roads in Kwun Tong and Kai Tak Development Area. These smart light poles have the ability to detect traffic flow and collect meteorological data, most of which are housed in a cylindrical or circular enclosure.

It is understood that traffic light detectors and panoramic cameras are installed on the smart street light poles to record data such as vehicle type, speed and traffic flow to assist the Transport Department in monitoring traffic. In addition, the poles are equipped with meteorological sensors that collect data such as temperature, humidity, wind speed and rainfall. Air quality sensors installed by the poles can also monitor and collect regional air quality data to support the Hong Kong Observatory and the Environmental Protection Agency. Related work.

In addition, Wi-Fi hotspots and related network equipment will be installed on the poles in the future. The poles have also reserved space for mobile network operators to install 5G service small base stations to cope with Hong Kong's future development of 5G services. It is expected that by the end of 2019, Hong Kong will install similar smart street lights in Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. It will then be extended to Tsim Sha Tsui. A total of about 400 smart street lights will be installed. It is reported that the relevant departments will review the results after one year of the first batch of smart street lights, and consult the public. The entire pilot project will last for three years.
