On May 8, 2018, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced the availability of optimized LED component solutions for plant lighting. Samsung's new plant lighting product line is based on the newly developed "red LED" device, and the existing "white LED" device and module product line has also added plant lighting specifications.
"Our plant lighting LED solutions are based on general lighting applications with LED technology that delivers proven performance and reliability levels," said Cui Yunzhun, vice president of Samsung Electronics' LED division. "By expanding our product line including plant lighting, we provide the one-stop solution as LED technologies for global luminaire manufacturers."
Samsung's new plant lighting LED - LH351B red light - is a high power package with a wavelength of 660nm and a photosynthetic flux (PPF) of 2.15mol / s (350 mA), suitable for most plant lighting applications. The 660nm wavelength helps plants accelerate growth, including photosynthesis and promoting flowering. The device has a low thermal resistance of only 2.0K/W, making it easier to design LED lamps. In addition, the LH351B red light uses the same pad design as the LH351 series, allowing for a more flexible PCB design in luminaire manufacturing.
Samples of LEDs for Samsung plant lighting are available now and will be on display at the American International Lighting Show in Chicago from May 8th to 10th, 2018.
*Note: PPF (photosynthetic photon flux) is a unit that measures the total number of photons of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) that can help plant photosynthesis with a spectral wavelength in the range of 400 nm to 700 nm.
