In the coming weeks, the city of Clovis in Fresno, Calif., Will replace 7,600 street lights. Replacement work starts on Monday and takes about 6 to 12 weeks to complete.
New LED street lights will save the city about 48,000 US dollars per year, saving 194 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
The central and northern parts of California will also replace 150,000 street lights. Replacement, the light distribution will be more uniform and improve road safety.
Newly installed LED bulbs last about four times as long as conventional bulbs, consuming only 50 to 75 percent of their electricity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and requiring little maintenance.
