GE General Electric Company announced in the next 1 years, phasing out CFL bulbs sold in the US, with LED bulbs instead. This means that the next time there is energy-conscious consumers looking for from GE light bulbs, they will pick LED bulbs. On the surface, the news sounds good, our homes will become more environmentally friendly.

LED energy-saving light bulbs more efficient than CFL bulbs. However, GE will continue to sell many other types of light bulbs, such as incandescent and halogen lamps. The only technology is phased out CFL. Other energy-saving light bulbs, though not, they still represent a large part of the lighting market.
This means that switching to LED bulbs are mainly focused on a single energy-efficient technologies. GE hopes this way, it can expand the LED light bulb market. GE Lighting director said that as Wal-Mart and Oprah efforts to promote year 2007 CFL bulb industry in market share is 30% of the product, consumers prefer its energy-saving efficiency while CFL bulbs do not like slow start-up time, and now LED bulbs can be solved this problem, so LED bulbs might be able to get bigger market.
GE LED bulb pushing another reason is Energy Star. Some long-term discounts available to CFL bulbs, LED bulbs next year will be provided to, GE will be able to take advantage of the new line-up of new Energy Star requirements for their continued leadership in the marketplace.
