At 4:50 on May 20, the newly built South Runway 2 of the Phase III Expansion Project of Xi'an Airport began to be powered on and lit up, and the construction project of the South Runway 2 entered the final debugging stage.
The newly built South Runway 2 is 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. It is 380 meters parallel to the existing South Runway 1 and has a grade of 4F, which can meet the take-off and landing of large passenger aircraft such as Airbus A380. Two new lighting stations, Class I approach lighting systems at both ends of the runway, precision approach slope indication systems, runway lighting systems, single light monitoring systems, etc. are built simultaneously, involving a total of 16 navigation lighting circuits, more than 1,200 sets of various navigation lighting facilities, and about 210,000 meters of power supply cables.
During the construction period, the airport construction headquarters and all participating units overcame difficulties such as cultural relics excavation, relocation of various important pipelines, high filling, relocation of new and old lighting stations, and went through multiple rounds of foundation reinforcement and anti-subsidence demonstration. The total filling volume was more than 5 million cubic meters, which is approximately equal to the capacity of 2,500 standard swimming pools. A total of 530 sets of smart sensors were laid under the pavement, which will provide real-time data for runway structure safety monitoring and prevention, runway operation safety evaluation and early warning, runway precision maintenance and decision-making, etc. After completion, it will become the second smart runway of Xi'an Airport.
The full circuit lighting of the South Second Runway marks that Xi'an Airport has taken a solid step towards the operation of the third runway, which will effectively enhance the operation guarantee capability of Xi'an Airport and lay the foundation for more efficient operation and long-term development of Xi'an Airport in the future. The airport construction headquarters will make every effort to complete the follow-up projects, accelerate the calibration flight, completion acceptance, test flight, industry acceptance and other work, and ensure that the South Second Runway is put into operation smoothly on schedule.
